X Probe Socketless

The X Probe Socketless Series allows a more robust probe to be mounted on closer centers while maintaining a reliable electrical contact from the probe tip to the termination. The conventional method utilizes a probe and socket system. By eliminating the socket through a patented (US Patent by 6,570,399) interconnect contact a .075 [1.91] probe with a .0402 [1.02] probe tube
diameter can be mounted on .050 [1.27] (X50 Series) centers and a .100 [2.54] probe with a 0.0538 [1.37] probe tube diameter can be mounted on .075 [1.91] centers (X75 Series).

How it works

The X Probe Socketless Series is comprised of two parts, a probe and a termination. The probe is designed around our patented rolled probe tube design with a modified interconnect receptacle on the bottom. The receptacle receives a precision machined .0195 [.495] or .025 [.64] diameter interconnect pin located on the top of the termination. The termination is unique in that it performs all of the functions of a typical socket while staying within the diameter of the probe tube. The termination is the heart of the assembly; it retains the probe at the proper set height utilizing two retention beads while providing a reliable electrical connection from the probe to the test fixture. The termination tail is compatible with current wire wrapping (X50 & X75A), wire jack (X50 & X39) or wireless connection (X39, X50, X75) or prewired (X39 & X50) methods.

Fixture requirements

The suggested fixture layout consists of three plates. The "Probe Plate" is drilled with a hole diameter slightly larger than the probe tube diameter to provide lateral support for the probe and guide it to the intended contact. The drilling accuracy of these holes is directly related to pointing accuracy of the assembly. An optional "Spacer Plate" is drilled with clearance holes for both the probe and termination, and is intended to provide additional support to the "Back Plate". The "Back Plate" is drilled to accept the termination pins. The utilization of standard tooling pins between the three plates during fixture manufacturing provides the required alignment necessary for proper operation and assembly.
